The First Continental Congress
After the Intolerable acts were passed, the Committee of Correspondence planned a meeting to have a discussion on what to do about the harsh acts. This meeting was called the first Continental Congress. Delegates from the colonies met in Philadelphia in 1774. Georgia was only colonies out of all of them that did not send any representatives to the congress. John and Samuel Adams, George Washington, and Patrick Henry were among the delegates. The First Continental Congress declared that all the colonies had a right to govern and tax themselves, and wanted the repeal of the Intolerable Acts. Also another boycott on British goods was called for by the congress. Repeal means official end.
